|  | Say something once, why say it again? | | Join Date: May 2011 Location: Saint Johns, Michigan | | | There is no cheap alternative for the Steel Swing Bass 66. The silk was originally there to hold the string together, but is only there now for appearances.
How to remove it? Cut it off with a knife or razor blade. You will probably score the strings, though, which will alter strength and sound, so you may need to try several times.
