C'mon guys don't be so hard on me, is it just a difference in gauge? I didn't know whether it had to do with the core shape or the coating.

Hybrid has softer D and G strings, which feels more consistent to me, but some people like the less balanced feel of the regulars since you get a bit more heft and snap out of the high strings, and a bit more flexibility and growl out of the low strings.

They're cheap, try one of each.

Don't bother listening to them, it was a valid question.

And yes, so far as I've noticed, it's only the gauges that are different. I prefer Hybrids myself since I like the beefier E string. I've actually mix and matched before, found that pretty comfortable. But I put a set of flats on after that, and haven't mixed strings since. Try both if you're interested.

...that could have been easily answered by going to the Ernie Ball website.

I've never been a fan of this argument. What else are these forums for other than to ask questions. And 99 out of 100 people will have asked a question similar to this before on TB, whereas they simply could have looked on Google for 10 seconds to find it. You can find almost any answer on the Internet with research, that's plainly obvious. It's just convenient to ask here.

In any event, people are free to hate on him for what's considered a dumb question, just as I'm allowed to hate on them for being hypocritical/unhelpful.

I won't disagree with you there, but I still think it was a stupid question. If your reply was considered the answer he was looking for then it took about 21 hours to get his answer. I'd hardly call that convenient. Googling 'Ernie Ball' and then going to their website, 3 minutes tops.

I absolutely agree with you that these forums are for asking questions, but if the question is obviously so easily answered then I think people should take a little personal responsibility and find the answer themselves. I saw a question on a fitness forum yesterday asking how to SPELL a word. Never did get an answer, just derision. Bravo I say.

You know I never knew the answer to that question until I opened this thread just now? I always figured it was a difference in design or something.

Guess the question wasn't that stupid.

Just out of curiosity, any reason you chose Ernie Balls?

Yeah, honestly, I'm all about personal responsibility and initiative. I just don't see the point of anyone hating on him cause he asked a question about strings. I personally also think it was a simple google away, but meh.

Er, because I play a Sterling? Lol, jk. I first got Hybrid Slinkys on an old P bass I had. I just find them really comfortable, and I don't notice them losing sound any. Just so you can see what I've compared, I found D'Addario's too brittle feeling, Fender's sounded a bit mild to me, Rotosounds ate my fingers (I only ever tried steel ones), then I got the EB Hybrids. It's my string of choice now. But I just got some EB flats because I've wanted flatwounds lately. We'll see how those are on my Sterling.

Glad that they work for you. I just never liked them much myself. I use DR Hi Beams on my fretted basses and D'Addario Chromes on my fretless.

How are DR's on your fingers? Cause I'm pretty sure they only do steel strings, if I'm not mistaken. I'd try some, but if I get my fingers eaten up, I'm screwed at my job because then I can't work.

Yeah, they're a little rough for comfort. I've gotten used to them, but then again I got such huge callouses I can't even feel the tips of my fingers anymore...

Guys I did actually search around before, but I guess not hard enough. The reason I posted was because by DR lo-riders make a little too much finger noise, and I read nickel solves this to a degree.

So the hybrid gauge is 45,65,85,105 and regular is 50,70,85,105. Is that correct?

Dumb questions keep all forums in up and running.
