I <3 DR Sunbeams

Just a general announcement that I could probably buy a few crates of these strings, never try another set, and be forever happy...

The HiBeams are nice, but I prefer when they break in (and sound more like... you guessed it, Sunbeams!).

Anyone else in my boat? Or at least DR in general?

Can you tell me what is really so great about the Sunbeams?
They're quite expensive here in Belgium, so you have to convince me before I buy 'em...

I tried fat beams and liked them during the last year- but my third set of them werent that great for some reason... just picked up a set of DR black beauty coated strings, and they sound and feel very nice- although Im not that crazy about black strings

Sunbeams are low tension, sound like roundwound but maybe less bright and a little warmer than the SS hi beams. I love how they feel + great quality and consistancy. And they're inexpensive in the US.

I put a set of DR Helborgs on a Jazz type I have. Very different string and sound. Very deep. I like them as well.

I have 5 basses and they all have DR's. Sunbeams, Fatbeams, Nickel LoRiders, Stainless LoRiders and Black Beauties. After a lot of different strings, DR just seemed to work for me.

I used Nickel LoRiders for a long time and felt I found my strings... But I tried a set of Dunlop Nickels that I got from their crew at BP Live and they won me over - looking forward to saving some money on strings.

I was told that the Dunlops are roundcore, so they are more comparable with Sunbeams than LoRiders. I haven't tried Sunbeams, but at this point I probably won't for a while... If the Dunlops somehow fail to long-term test.

But DR's are great strings no question.

Other great nickels include Sadowsky Blues, Superalloys, and 7250s.

+1 on the sunbeams. I just traded basses and the new bass came with sunbeams. I can honestly say that I couldn't put it down. The string tension was perfect and made playing easier. They sound great and I can't wait to string up my other bass with them. I would suggest everyone to give them a try.

I haven't tried Sunbeams, but I did put on a set of Nickel Lo Riders and didn't like them at all. I tried some Fender 7150s and liked them a lot, and I put on a set of 7250s last night - we'll see how they sound at church tomorrow morning.

I really didn't like the tone of the Lo Riders, but I was also put off by the absence of silk with those, Rotosounds and D'Addario half rounds. I know it doesn't really matter, but I think the silk just looks really cool.
