i just put on a set of DR LO-Rider Nickel rounds 40-95.
wow! they feel so good and sound great!
i had tried the hi beams and the lo-rider SS in months past trying to find just the right thing, but these light gauge nickels are awesome with great definition and playability. its how it SHOULD feel to play my bass!

Congrats on finding what works/sounds best for you! I'm still looking.

So many choices.....so many great strings....so many poor stings.

+1

I've spent so much money in the last month trying strings for me new to me bass (69 Jazz). I can't find the "it" string yet. I've tried flats, nickels, and now i'm onto steels. I'm gonna give DR's a shot and then I'll just give up and put whatever i have leftover on.

what's the tension like on the light-gauge?

I want to work out the lightest gauge I can go and still have quite a lot of tension, I hate floppy strings.

I hear ya. I just threw a set of steels on my P bass. Within 1 hour they were off. There's $25 gone.

I'm mostly a flats guy, but my two basses that sport rounds (Sadowsky J and L2500) both wear Nickel Lo-Riders, and they are probably the best, most versatile roundwound I've ever found. Bright enough for anything(for me at least) and no problem getting a nice, warm, mellow sound either. They kill on the Sadowsky in particular---perfect match. Never tried a light guage like that though(I actually kinda wish they were even heavier and stiffer!)
