I Finaly Found My Strings!

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's the story.

I've been on a bit of a string search recently, trying to find the right sttrings for my Jazz. I tried my fave Stainless strings, GHS bright flats, fender flats, and DR highbeams and sunbeams. I was starting to get a bit despondent about it all and was even thinking that the bass just wasnt for me. Then i got a good price on a set of TI jazz flats and thought what the hell why not?

these strings are beautiful!!!! perfect tension, the right amount of growl mixed in with the perfect amount of old school thud and roundness. They are just so even and clear and a joy to play. and suddenly the jazz is my favorite bass!

So the hype about these strings is true, TI flats are the shiz.

Thanks for listening, goodnight

The TIJF's are sweet. I have them on my G&L SB1 and SB2. Once they broke in, I swore they were made for those basses! Getting used to the low tension didn't take long, and I found that the strings seemed to "stiffen" up just a bit after they had broken in.

I'm trying to decide on the TI SA's or JR's for my '92 MIA Jazz.

Yes, I love the T.I. JF 34s. I put them on all my basses. I don't need super modern tones or anything suited to slapping. These strings just sound rich and well balanced; the way I like an electric bass to sound. The slightly lower tension takes almost no time to get used to and makes it a lot easier on my fingers. After about a week for them to break in properly they just stay that way for years. Probably 7 years now on my oldest set and that one has been played a lot. Thet record beautifully too.

Even if you have to pay full price for them they're a bargain because of the long useable life.

I started out on flats when I got my first P bass in 62. I never liked those factory Fender strings but they were about all you could get. They got dull and thuddy and lost all character after a while. I tried other brands over the years and none of the others suited me either. When I tried my first set of T.I. flats I was sold immediately and very quickly stopped using roundwounds which I had been using for years after giving up on flats.

They don't suit everyone of course, but there's just as much disagreement between brands of roundwounds.

I have not tried the jazz flats but use the superalloys on my Zon fretless and TI powerbass roundwounds on my Alembic Essence. They are by far the best strings I have ever used.

Yes. They are so "soft to the touch" you can really "dig in" when you want to, giving a growl you won't get from other flats. They are much more "articulate" with good mids.

On the other hand, they don't have the massive THUD that old-school flats have.

I have been trying to put together a CD for an audition. And of course everything sounds like crap. There's always a mistake or a missed beat in everything I have done. But after reviewing 5 years of playing, I love the sound of my 61J with TI flats as much as anything. It is a very punchy full sound. As a result of this I think I am going to throw a set on my 50's P. Here's some TI flats takin' it easy (right mouse, save target as, then open).
