There was always something lacking on my Grendel 5 thou I did really like the bass. I have been trying to decide on whether I needed new pickups or preamp. Well I had picked up a set of DR LoRider Stainless a few months ago when I bought 4 sets of strings on craigslist. I finally put them on 2 weeks ago and seems that the strings were exactly what I was lookiing for. Also a lot cheaper than new electronics. Lots of growl but with clarity and cut.
