I got a question

Sign in to disble this ad
So while I'm not the most ignorant dude in music (I'd like to think I'm not anyway), I'm also not the one with the most money so I haven't been able to experiament much, jus look around and read others talk about strings and what not and now that I'm gettin pretty good and I play with other guys I've been thinking more now about my own sound in addition to learning the bass, and all the goodness that that entails
I know what sound I like and what sound I'd like, and I've worked a lot with my uncle (who was a bassist in a few bands) on how to get that sound from technique, and I've got that mostly down, but I also know strings can help me achieve that sound, and now that I no longer live with my uncle I can't work with him as freely (darn those adults and their busy schedules), so I was wondering if somebody could give me at least some idea
So I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but I guess I can give some examples
Kinda like the love child of My Generation (The Who of course), Internal Primates Forever (Mudvayne), Propaganda (Sepultura), The Game (Disturbed), Thunderkiss '65 (White Zombie), and perhaps even a little Schism (Tool)
Again I'm not sure how best to really describe it, but that's teh best I can give
Some of the things I read about strings that get that kinda of sound will mention that they don't play well with slap, or sometimes anything other than slap, but I like to play every style from finger pick to slap to tap
I've been told I want lighter gauge strings
So can anybody give me a little insight???

If your striking technique isn't too firm, I'd recommend lighter gauge (or at least lighter core) stainless steel strings. I'm betting that a set of Foderas on your bass would bring a smile to your face.

A lighter gauge is easier to play no matter what. Personally I like SIT Powerwounds [45105]
stainless rounds = real bright
nickel rounds = bright
half-rounds = not so bright
flats = not bright
