I bought the D'Addario EXL160 bass strings for my basses. These come in a pack of two and cost the price of one. For $23 I got two sets of .50 - .105 and they sound great. I previously had Rotosound Swing 66 strings on my basses and I loved the sound but they died very quickly and became muddy and lifeless. I put these on my Jazz and my P and the sound has been revitalized! I love the sound I get now, very bright and punchy. If anyone is looking for a bright set of rounds, give these a try. Great if you have more than one bass as well. Trying to pass on a great deal to TBers. They also came with a free Planet Waves strobe tuner but I find it to be too slow to use.

EX160 set- .50 - .105

Musician's Friend also has the same deal on their lighter gauges: .45 - .100

D'Addario's are pretty much the only strings I will use! They are fantastic.

Yep, EXL165's for me. 45-105's are my weapon of choice.

+1 on the D'Addario's. I use the same strings on my 4 bangers and the 165's on my 5's with a .135 B String.

Soft feel, easy to play, long life, great sustain, sound great, bright, but not too bright, bronze phosphor with a steel hex core.

Just about the perfect strings...

I use the XL 170's 45-100's on my SR 400.
They do sound better when broken in a little.

I like EXL-170s, I was using them on just about everything. I like the sound brand new, but they get a little dull for me when broken in. I switched to Ken Smith strings on my BSR5J-MW when I sent it back to Ken's shop for some work. I think I dig the D'Addarios a bit more though.... I may switch back.

EXL 170 on my Musicman SUB
Never been so pleased with my sound.

Tried:
- EXL 165: too thick and too hard to pull (on stagg BC300)
- GHS flea sign. Boomers: too sloppy and G-breaking after boiling (on MM SUB)

I just got a 5 string XL set 45 - 130. GREAT improvement from EB Slinkies, but still not 100% satisfied. I'm excited to see how they'll sound and feel a little broken in. Next 2 to try are Roto 66 and DR Lo Riders.
