I guess I'm a roundwound kinda guy!

I've been in a rut lately, to seek out inspiration, I pulled out an old dirty set of roundwounds off a junk bass, pulled the nice flats off my bass and threw the junky rounds on. I forgot how much I missed this. I got right back into the groove. I thought I was over slap bass, but it turns out I just need that extra pop that rounds have.

When I'm a man who has two basses, one will have flats, the other rounds. I love the mellow sound sometimes, but it's good to have the thunder of rounds back.

I can't wait to buy some new rounds... I haven't played with new rounds in about a year...

I didn't put a set of flats on until I had more than one bass. That P will never have rounds again, but the others will never have flats I would imagine.

I just had the same experience with my bass as well. I had flats on for a good six months, and for the first two months I loved the sound, and my bass playing grew by leaps and bounds. But after a while of trying to get a nice sound back from my amp that was farting all the time, and my bass sounding like I was playing with a hamer on a tin can (clank clank), I switched back to my roundwounds. All I can say is that the sound improved so much that I probably will not go back to flats.

I suppose the ideal situation is to have the best of both worlds ( and the money ) to own more than one bass. Personally, for now I'm more than happy with my flats.

I've found that I can't give up my rounds, as I switched to flats for about two months, and just didn't get enough punch for the faster songs. But I plan on getting another jazz just for flats to use on our softer songs.

Somehow Steve Harris manages to get enough punch for fast songs, and so do I. Flats rule!

I know! I don't get that, he has some really clanky tone and he uses flats... so weird.

But I don't know, I seriously sound/play soooo much better with rounds. But one day, I'll have a bass with flats and another with rounds. When I had flats on, I wasn't playing as much, the second I threw on rounds... it's like I want to play all the time again... in fact. I gotta go play now!

I guess the Roto jazz flats would be worth checking out if you are looking for flats with a brite sound. Chromes were real brite to me and I only liked to play them with a pick on my Warwick Corvette. Look for cheap basses (japanese) and try and keep different basses strung differently. I keep thinking of one bass all the time but bass playing ADD does not permit me.
