I have. They're okay.

I like Ernie Ball Super Slinkie's way better though.

I'm in the same boat, man. I play a pair of Line6 Variaxes, and I never really cared about strings before, and care even less now that I use a modelling instrument... However, some strings do track better than others. I know this because I have a set of D'Addarios on one of my Variaxes, and a set of ultra-cheapie Darkos on the other - and there is a night & day difference between the tracking on the synth, 8-, and 12-string settings (the others are about the same), and the tone is slightly more defined on the better strings.

I'll have to try some Ernie Balls. I actually bought some the other day, but I haven't put them on yet.

Dave

If you're aiming for a punk style (I'm guessing based on your user name and equipment), I'd steer clear of GHS in general... I've never been satisfied with their strings.

If you want a brighter, more aggressive tone, look into stainless steel roundwound strings. In general, they are rougher on the fingers, but if you play with a pick, it's not a big deal. Some people prefer the rough feel for fingerstyle (like me). Examples include, but are not limited to:

- D'Addario Prosteels
- Rotosound Swing Bass 66
- DR Hi-Beams
- DR Lo-Riders
- La Bella Hard Rockin' Steels
- Dean Markley Blue Steels
- TI Power Bass

Search for more info on TB to get a better idea of the differences between these strings.

If you want a more versatile set of strings that works for multiple style and genres, nickel roundwounds would be a good type to look into. They're warmer sounding, but still bright, and have a much softer feel.

= )

Thanks a lot for the help so far guys...

To give a better idea of what im looking for ill explain... I play in a style of the used, taking back sunday, underoath, red jumpsuit, etc... I play with my fingers and use an american deluxe p-bass.... I need a deep tone, but i also need enough brightness to cut through the mix... And it has to be a GHS model string.... Anyone have any suggestions? Is it just as simple as getting heavy boomers????

Hmm... are you a GHS endorser?

Anyhow, out of the GHS string family, I'd suggest going for any of the following:

- B-52s (magnetically active Boomers... I'm guessing it's like a brighter version of the nickel-plated standard Boomers?)
- Infinity Steels (coated stainless steel)
- Super Steels (stainless steel)

These would all have a brighter tone. IMO, I'd opt for the Super Steels based on the description, but I don't have any experience with them... just with other stainless steel strings.
