I have found MY strings!

Just strung some DR Low Riders on my stingray a couple days ago and I'm in heaven These are the growliest strings I've owned and they sound awesome with the ray. I had been using high beams and fat beams before as I thought they would be better as I do a lot of higher note solo type stuff and I really liked them but now after trying out the low riders, I think I've finally found my strings. They just add a really nice umph to my tone if that makes any sense and the slap tone is amazing. I would even venture to say that I like the slap tone on the low riders more than the fat beams. I decided to try low riders cause I don't do as much lead stuff as I do with my own group and thought it would be nice to try something with some punchier lows and low mids. Found it with the low riders.

So for anyone needing that growly low end punch , go try low riders, you won't be disappointed

I concur. Been using low riders on my basses(custom Warwick's) for a while now. Had been using hi-beams like you and was not liking the lowish tension. The Low Riders fixed that right up, excellent tension, tone and overall playability. Love them on my fretless!!!
Peace

I actually strung up my Bongo HH with Lowriders the other day, as I heard they offered slightly higher tension than which is better for down-tuning (I tune to D-Standard ).

To be honest, I was quite amazed and was considering starting a thread like this myself! Amazingly clear low-end and low-mid growel, and fantastics highs too! They growel when I need them to, and hold down the low-end when I want that

FANTASTIC strings! Worth every penny

I have Low Riders on my Dingwall SuperJ 5 and like them a lot. It's the first time I have tried any DR strings (it came shipped with DR's) and the only thing that I don't like too much is that they are on the expensive side of strings, so when I want to replace them, I am going to have to part with some extra money.

Just had ma Jazz set up and strung it with DR Lo Riders for the first time and they blow away the Boomers I had on it previously. They seem to have the mid range of steels with the feel of nickle. So far, Im loving them. We'll see in a week or two how they break in, but so far so good.

I tried Hi-Beams in a .40 gauge once on a P-bass once and was pretty disappointed. The strings sounded great, I just couldn't really tune to Drop D or anything (Which I found really odd, because my P-bass tunes down well even with low-tension strings) and so I got rid of those quick.

My teacher/friend uses a Warwick with DR Lo-Riders though, and I have to say, they keep a very punchy sound in Drop C.

None, I tried Hi-Beams.

My teacher uses Mediums, I think.

I cannot sing the praises of Lo-Riders enough, they really are the best string out there IMO. As soon as I saw this thread title on the front page, I just knew it was going to be another DR lovefest!

coming from the guy with a dingwall... *edit: dingwalls <---- you've got three you lucky man!!

I had the same experience, have been using hi beams and fat beams for a while and just tried some low riders and loved em. Nice and thick bottom but have a nice slap sound, and feel better than stainless as well. Great strings.

Lo rider nickels are even better than steel imo. I have them on my Stingray, and they are amazing. Best sounding string I have ever used. Growl and Thump!!

I put them on my previous Stingray and absolutely loved them. My current Stingray still has the originals Slinkys on it but I asked for a few sets of strings for Christmas So I'll hopefully be putting a set of Lo Riders on in a few weeks.

In addition to the awesome tone, I also think they feel pretty nice for a roundwound string. They're obviously not as smooth as a flatwound, but I remember that first set I had feeling smoother and more comfortable under my fingers than most other roundwounds I've tried.

Sorry for replying so late. I have the medium MH-45 steel Lo-riders. Haven't tried the nickel ones yet though.
And yeah the only complaint I have with DR is the price, I like to change strings quite often as I dig the zingy new string sound and its gonna cost me quite a bit to keep buying lo-riders. Oh well, I think the difference in sound is totally worth the extra ten bucks

I've been using high beams for a while, but I've been skeptical about Low Riders, just cause I feel like they might be TOO low.

But hey, it's DR. I'll take it on good faith and run with it.

Been doing the swaparoo with some strings lately and YES the 'ray sounds incredible with Lo-riders albeit the Nickel version. Night and day after switching out the Slinky's...

Did the steel thing a few years ago and thought the tension was a bit much for my liking.
