I ((heart)) Medium Chromes!

After trying different flats I've finally decided the Medium Chromes are MY strings. I've been playing Chromes for a while now but I just now realized how much lower action I can get with the Medium's rather than the Light's, plus I really like the higher tension of the heavier gauge string.

I just changed the set of 3 year old Light Chromes I had on my Hwy. 1 Jazz to a set of Mediums and man it has totally changed the playability. This has made the Hwy. 1 go from the bottom of my Jazz basses list (U.S. 62RI Jazz, U.S. 5 string Jazz, Lakland JO4, and Hwy. 1) to fighting for the top slot with my Lakland JO4 (which also sports the same strings).

It's so great when you get a bass you've had for a while and it seems like it's lost it's magic and you give it a little setup and shine and it starts singing to you again!

Something about the amount of high mids from the Chromes make them fabulous for some basses and not so nice for others.

On the right bass they are extraordinary, IMO.

Chromes are the only strings I really like for my P-bass ... rounds just don't sound right to me and other flats don't allow me to have the aforementioned high end even with the tone rolled off. The Chromes let me have reasonably even frequency response around the spectrum while still retaining a round, vintage thump that I look for in a Precision.

I just put a set on my Ibanez Artcore AGB-140. When I bought the bass, I threw on what I had laying around which was a set of light GHS Precision Flats. It sounded okay but with the medium Chromes it sounds absoultely monstrous! I've used Chromes for years on my J-Basses but the sound on the semi-hollow is beyond belief. I can't believe I waited so long...what was I thinking?
