I hope this isn't a dumb question

I got a Godin A4 fretless. I'm OK with the strings on it for now, but the time will come for me to change them.

Are they acoustic strings or electric strings?

The ones on there don't feel at all like acoustic strings I've played in the past.

Also, I've heard of problems people have had with the bridge pins not staying in, or strings not fitting. How do I know if I'm getting the right strings? I'd like rounds or half-rounds instead of flats.

I don't know what it comes with, but since it's a piezo bass you can use whatever you want, magnetic or not.

Not a dumb question. I've got an A4, too. It wasn't until now that I bothered to find out what strings are on it.

According to the Godin web site:

"GODIN A-4 ACOUSTIBASS FRETTED & FRETLESS:
CB81 'POLISHED-STAINLESS' SOFT/LONG SCALE FLATWOUND (.045,.065,.080,.100 )"

The web site also says:

"Guitar innovator Robert Godin united with the leading string manufacturer in the United States to create these outstanding strings..."

Somebody here probably knows which manufacturer that is.

So, to answer your question, I guess, they are electric bass strings that were designed for the A4.

Godin has used D'Addario Chromes on them for years, or at least the last I heard. You can use anything on them since there are piezo pups in the bass.
I have found flats and tapewounds to be the most "acoustic" sounding strings for ABGs. Both of mine (Carvin AC40F and a Regal Resophonic Bass) sport a set of lite GHS Precision Flats. LaBella Tapewounds also sound very "upright-ish" on them. Then again, Chromes sound good as well. And it's already set up for them.
