Maybe D'addario half rounds. Half rounds will give you a warmer tone, but also allow you to play slap. Or you can just get nickel rounds and play near the neck.

Somehow, I really like D'addario strings, slapping sounds well. Using thick ones can also make warm sound with fingers.

Ken Smith-Compressors.

Brighter than flats.
darker, deeper, than rounds.
Also, smoother than rounds.

Sounds like Fender 7250s. Or depending on the bass Labella Hard Rockin' Steels with the tone controlled rolling off the highes.

Strings I have used for a warm sound with a good slap tone also, D'addario XL Nickel Roundwound , DR Sunbeams , GHS Bass Boomers, Fender Super Bass Nickel Roundwound , Ernie Ball Slinkys Nickel roundwound. All these string have worked for me in the past. I have settled on the D'addario XL's.

Depending on the bass you're using, I would be more inclined to mess about with your eq settings. Perhaps set up a bright sound for slap, and simply roll of the tone control when you want a warmer sound.

Sadowsky Bright Nickels. Warm and bright. Great all around string. Sounds good slapped or fingerstyle.

Have you tried Elixir polyweb strings? They sound like a broken in roundwound string, but have the warmth, punch and enough highs to help you get heard. And they last. I've had mine on for about 7/8 weeks and sound like the day I got them. The coating is flaking off where my right hand goes, but they sound good.

As for metal, I'd have thought something like D'Addario Pro Steels would be just the ticket...

labella flats. pretty much the definition of deep and warm and you can get really cool slap tones with them as well.

I never used them but DR MM Fat Beams are said to be warm&bright.

Other then that,Sadowsky nickels sound like what you describe,my fav. nickels.

OTOH I'm using D'addario XL Nickel Rounds after many years again and they are good too.I can slap&pop&tap with them then get a nice warm tone.
