I Need a Long String

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive got a new-to-me 34" scale, semi hollow bodied Washburn that has the original, rusty strings. Problem is the tailpiece-style bridge anchors the strings about about 4.5" from the actual bridge. So I need a string that has about 40" inches of winding to clear the nut. I've tried Rotosounds, DRs and GHS+

Option #1: Contact Jason at Welcome to Bass Strings Online - Your Custom Bass String Shop... and see what he has available. You won't beat the price.

Option #2: Circle K strings. His 'long' strings have 41" of winding.

Maybe this article and some detailed measuring of the required minimum length helps you on the way: http://www.daddario.com/upload/BassArticle2_1803.pdf
Another source could be Circle-K strings. They produce strings up to 40", as far as I know.

In short for the D'Addario article:

D'Addario Short fits instruments where Ball End to Nut is up to 32"
D'Addario Medium fits instruments where Ball End to Nut is 32" - 34"
D'Addario Long fits instruments where Ball End to Nut is 34" - 36"
D'Addario Super Long fits instruments where Ball End to Nut is 36" - 38"

I've had the same problem with my Peavey Cirrus, I may look into some Circle K's as well

I wonder what strings they had in mind with the design...

I also vote Circle K.

Just as an FYI - our D'Addario Super Long Scale Bass Strings fit basses obviously with SL scale length (36" to 38" as Jason pointed out previously) but the total string length is 48" so there is some amount of playincluded with the overall string length. This is intended to help with extended bridges, thru-body designs or extended headstocks. However, the string taper occurs at just beyond the 38" mark so you need to make sure that measurement meets your overall needs.

Don, I tried the nickel XL Super Longs and they came up a half inch short. Gtr Center, Earthshaking, and even Jim at Atl Bass Gallery have nothing for me!
