If you're flats-only like I am, the TI jazz flats are a good alternative (tho they cost up the $$$). I just put a set on my carvin 6 FL and the improvement in playability over the stock strings I had on it is dramatic. The low tension is what does it, even with low action they're much easier to push down.
Also, less hammering when plucking is needed to get a good bark out of them.
It came with the stock Carvin strings on it when I bought it (I think they're LaBellas) and they were _extremely_ high tension (thought I was going to strip the truss rod during setup). So I don't recommend those personally.
Only drawback of the TI's besides the cost is some unevenness in the strings themselves which makes them buzz slightly in certain spots when you play with a super low action like I do - I'm hoping this eventually wears itself out.
They're also surprisingly bright. Hopefully they'll die ASAP.
The low tension and playability makes me not really care much about that tho.
