I’m about to buy a short scale bass (an SX (Essex) ¾ scale P copy that I’ll fit with a Bill Lawrence P-45 and upgraded electronics - so few lefty short scales around).
I’m looking for strings with low or no finger noise/squeal but with good twang. As an example of the tone I’m looking for, please see around 1’45” in
this clip by Glenn Campbell. I’m guessing this is a Fender Bass VI, probably strung with flats?? If I’m right, then it’s clear that flats *can* twang, perhaps with not as much brightness as a roundwound. I’m happy to go roundwound if I can get a twangin’ string with no to low squeal.
Any advice will be appreciated. Cheers.
