I'm looking for really bright strings. Im currently using Medlight blue steals. Does anyone know of a particular model of strings that are EXTREMELY bright. I want that high pitch grind tone. |

Pretty much for the brightest tone look for stainless steel strings with a hex core. Hi-beams have a round core, they sound bright with a pick or slap but are warmer when played with your fingers. |

| | | | I guess I'm sticking with blue steels. I just bought myself the Marcus Miller DR and Im not too impressed. They sound good though but blue steels are much brighter. |

ProSteels, Hi Beams, Blue Steels, and MTD stainless were always the brightest to me, YMMV. Pull out the wallet and start trying em.

Blue Steels are very very bright but you could always shop around for another brand of stainless steel strings to see if anything else goes even brighter. For me, I always want to go in the opposite direction... as warm as I can go without switching to flats (although I might try flats). Quote:

If none of the stainless steel strings does it for you, you should definitely make sure you're playing a more modern-sounding amp, like a GK and, by all means, absolutely play an active bass. A StingRay, for example, can go way bright and I've heard Sadowskys that have incredibly tinny highs.

YES, go active. You should have done that to begin with if bright, metallic grind is the tone you're going for. Get an onboard preamp, like an Aguilar, and that will make WORLDS of difference.

If your bass isn't bright with a new set of blue steels and the tones opened all the way, then it's likely an amplification issue.
What I would do is go find some "non bass' gear ei PA system, audio interface something that is designed not to have a "tone" and see what your bass sounds like. Bass gear mainly cabs don't always reproduce upper mids and highs all that accurately.
Also extreme boost in low frequencies can easily make your high end quite a big less distinguishable. |

| | | | I have a GK backline 600 and I'm using a tech 21 vT bass deluxe pedal. I'm good on equipment and eq settings its just I like the sound of really bright strings. Has anyone tried the Trujillo dunlop strings? |

A Stingray strung with Prosteels could cut through titanium like a hot knife through butter. |

On the amp, I'd recommend boosting the high mids and treble. As someone else has already said, if that still doesn't work, you may need to change something in the amplifier portion of your rig.
