So I put in an order for a few sets of DR Sunbeams, that I really need this weekend for a couple of basses, and opt for express shipping. I also threw in a couple sets for basses I don't play much, but figured might as well just make one order even though I don't need those sets. I got their email after saying they had the order, and it was all good. I left town for the next couple of days and have just got back to find that they emailed back later saying that the DR's, which are the only ones I really need, were out of stock and on back order, but they shipped the two sets I don't need express mail. So today I just called to find out about the DR's, and they absolutely refuse to send these out express unless I pay for that AGAIN. ***! They were totally unwilling to help me in this situation, as small and petty as it is. And now I am screwed for this weekend out of using two of my basses. I can understand stocking problems, but to be unwilling to tell that BEFORE an order is placed, and to refuse to offer any solutions short of paying twice what I should to solve it is unacceptable in this day and age. That is the last call I will ever place to juststrings.

| | | Take a look at their policy on express mail shipments, here: "Customers will be charged at the time of shipment for the products that are shipped and there will be no additional shipping charges for items that are backordered and shipped separately. Second or third shipments will be shipped via United States Postal Service First Class Mail or Priority Mail."
Anytime I'm ordering express, I always make sure the item is in stock first. Sorry you didn't, but they're just following their own stated policy. |

They have no stocking system, cannot tell you if there are sets in stock, and rely SOLEY on an email AFTER you order to solve this problem? Come on, if I place an order I expect right then and there to know if it's in stock or not. I also expect that I don't have to be at home waiting for an email response after the sale, in order to know if a shippment has any problems. And also if I am not able to send a reply email, which I wasn't being out of town I still expect them to help resolve this. I left town and they 'processed' this order before I ever found out they were out of stock, and now they tell me I am supposed to pay an additional express fee to get these, which they still don't have or can tell when they will have, shipped express? That's total BS, and ANY business owner who cares about their customers would send the DR's off express as soon as they came in, and I would then be a repeat customer. Instead, I will not buy form them and pass this on as I am able. I just now placed an order with music123 for these, which will be here, and will use them from now on as they're nearby and have all the brands i use in stock, and have people on the phone to talk to and ensure there are not going to be any kind of these internet-only BS problems to deal with.

| | | | I've called juststrings on two different occasions. Both times they were able to look and tell me that what I wanted was in stock.
If I'm ordering any product of any kind by express mail or overnight carrier, I always make sure it's in stock first.
You're welcome to deal with anyone you please. But juststrings clearly states their policy right there on their website. They're doing it the way they say they're going to do it in case of backorder. You didn't read the policy. That's not their fault. |

if they don't carry what you want, ask and they will add them! They have for everything I've needed. |

A boatload of people on this site have had good experiences with them, and it's not as if they blatantly wronged you; they did something not entirely unreasonable that followed their publicly stated policy, and it just so happened that it didn't fit into your unique schedule. I'm not going to tell you where to shop, but at the same time, I don't really think this is such a horror story. They sent you some strings as quickly as they could, but every merchant has to backorder something sometime. |

Backorder is fine, just be able to know what you have and don't have, especially on weekends and after hours when they're not accessable by phone and things need to get ordered. And here's an idea, if there is a problem with an order and you don't hear from the buyer, DON"T ship it until it's clarified. All they had to do is wait to hear from me and this is a non event. But they went ahead anyway and I'm out $20. The fact that they don't give a crap about that is what sets me off, not that I didn't get a few string sets.

I ordered a set of strings from them and had them sent to my work address. I've had tons of things sent there without a problem. My order from juststrings wasn't delivered because I didn't include the name of the business. I just gave my name and the address like I have every time before. The lady on the phone was very rude and told me they sent me an email after I placed my order stating that I needed to include the business name. This is something that definitely should have been stated somewhere in the checkout process, not in an email sent after my order was placed. Did I mention that the lady on the phone was very rude and could care less about my problem?

Internet shopping is convenient and sometimes cheaper but it's never going to be a replacement for walking into the a store and walking out with them. |

Mike,
I'm sorry to hear that the lady on the phone at JS.com was rude to you. No customer deserves that.
I have to disagree with you though about the addressing issue. It is not JS's responsibility to make sure you provide a correct shipping address. It is fairly common knowledge that the Post Office does not deliver items when the names does not match the address. You may have received items like that in the past, but if the postal workers are following the rules the item will be RTS (return to sender). |

So, that leaves ordering from somewhere online when you're up against a time limit. So, what common sense am I not using here by using an online retailer?

My local shop doesn't stock flatwound 6 string bass sets.
I've also ordered from juststrings and had the same happen to me, they take your money and then tell you that they're out of stock.
I now order from either stringbusters or stringsdirect, both sites show the current stock position.
