On one SR800 I use D'Adarrio flats on the other I use DM Blue Steels. I prefer the flats.

I was thinking about going with the Black Beauties or Lo Riders. What kind of tone do the Black Beauties get?

i used GHS boomers and Rotosound for my SR300. I find these strings along with Ernie Ball and occassionally Dean Markley Blue steel, just give the type of string sound I like best. Never had daddario, elixer, or DR on any bass and liked them. There sound just isnt for me. So simply put, try the strings you like best, theres no such thing as a string best suited to a given bass. Its all subjective personal preferance really.

I string my SR305 with custom gauges from juststrings.com.

For low to high, G# C# G# C# F#, I use D'addario nickel wound gauges .145, .110, .080, .055, and .040.

With my next order, I'll be going to D'addario pro steels.. Gauges .145, .120, .085, .060, and .040.

I have an SR 540, and its set up with Elixirs. It serves me well. Quick neck with slick strings, this thing flies.

The other criteria you might consider when trying out strings is the style of music you play.

I think my new one came from the factory with D'addario standard steel rounds and my used one has Ernie Ball standard ("bright"?) steel rounds. They're both 4-string.

For you other 4-string SR owners - I've stuck with the standard Ibanez gauges .045-.065-.085-.105 but I'm curious as to whether others have experimented with different sizes. I play with very low action and like the playability fine; I've just never had the time or money to sit down and compare different gauges...

IIRC Ibanez the SR's come stock with Elixers, not D'Addario's.

I use fender 7150 on mr sr500. They have a nice warm tone and good feel. Had the m on alittle over a month now. Beware, they have a light gold silk on them.(should be a law against that.)
