A few days ago at band practice I finally broke a string and was forced to change the strings on my Spector. I thought my sound was pretty good with my super-dead string, but as soon as I threw on a set of Blue Steels my bass sounds infinitely. It even makes my overdriven sound cut better.

Note to self: Wait less than 8 months to change the strings the next time I buy a bass.

Next time try a set of DR Low Rider Stainless Steel. I used Blue Steels for many years until I tried the Low Riders 2 years ago. Great sound. A little brighter that the Blue Steels at first, but they calm down after a gig or two.

Thinking about it, I need to change mine. Thanks for the reminder.

I have DR's on my Thunderbird. I used to use Blue Steels on it, but I needed a bit brighter sound for that fat chunk of bass. As soon as I get the bridge repaired on my Thunderbird I'll go back to it and do a better camparison. I think DRs would end up being too much on my already bright Spector. I may try it out for kicks.

I need to remember to go get a set-up on my Spector tommorow. Realized I bought a heavier gauge and now my action is all silly.

my friend has a P-bass you can tune by lining up the indents on the strings with the frets.

I always found Blue Steels to be brighter than anything.
I've got some Sub Zero Boomers I need to throw on at some point to compare.

Dead strings have their place. That place is not in my heavy punk music. IMO that is. Someone is going to come rant at me for that aren't they?

I know some of you dig them, but to my ear dead rounds are sort of the worst of both worlds, they lack all the good qualities of both flats and fresh rounds.

IMO.

Blue Steels are great strings, but I would also suggest checking out DRs.
