ID'ing strings.... help.

Sign in to disble this ad
As I was taking inventory of strings and basses that needed re string before a massive setup day..... I realized I have no clue which strings are on two of my basses I tried searching on the net for a comparison chart...no go. They're not DAddario's because those are color coded... I've never bought elixir coateds..I have an empty ghs boomer roundwound package (45-130) and an empty Ernie Ball Super Slinky roundwound (.40-.125) package, but no guarantee that either of those two are the strings in question. They would've been purchased at a music store in the US (guitar center or a local shop) because the only online purchases have been my labellas..). So....I ask for the genius of Talk bass

String set #1

5 string, long scale (regular), brass ball ends, red silk windings on the tuner ends, roundwounds. I need to get a micrometer but this is the heaviest gauge string set out of all mine.

String set #2

5 string, long scale, brass ball ends, no silk windings of any type, roundwounds. Seem to be lighter gauge than set 1....

Ideas?
I wish the string people would put pictures of the ends of their strings on the websites.....or a better description on the package at least........

Thanks guys!

String manufacturers should stamp the ball-ends with at least their logo.

Ok so red silk wind is boomers.........

I agree, they should at least stamp their initials...I mean, if I like a set of strings, and want to buy more but threw out the package and have no clue , they just lost a possible loyal customer *sigh*.

This time I'm keeping a list of what strings are on what bass.... and noting the date I changed them!

Thanks!
