I'm looking for a middle ground..

Hello!

I play a Fender Jazz through an Orange MK3. I have TI Jazz Flats, and really like them, but they are just a little too muddy for some of the faster stuff I'm playing. I am having a really difficult time getting a clear quality sound at any sort of a serious pushed volume and speed. I think a brighter string would do the trick, but I don't want to go traditional bright.

Is there a middle ground? Or a type of string that is just a little brighter then the TIs? A really bright flat or a really dull roundwound?

It's about time to put some new strings on ol' Jazmine and I could for sure use some suggestions.

Might want to try a Pressure Wound string. Jason at basstringsonline.com suggested GHS or Ken Smith for me. But shoot him an email and he'll hook you up with the right string at the best price you'll find

Nickel Lo-Riders and if those are too bright then apparently La Bella Slappers are a bit darker.

GHS Pressurewounds work great for what you are looking for,and they are not all that expensive.

Agreed on the nickel Lo Riders. Just got a set and it sounds like that is the sound you are looking for. I love them!

Plus 1000! Paging SLaPiNFuNK! Jason is the guy to ask as he has direct experience with those strings. He's recommended them to me before but I havne't had a need for them yet and I think mmbongo is right on the money with his string suggestion.

Pressure Wounds are the way to go IMHO for something in the middle of a flat and a round, in both feel and tone.

They are punchy, tight, and responsive. They do not have the round wound string squeal when shifting and are smooth to the touch under your fingertips and plucking hand. Also, the tone is really well balanced. Good fundamental while bright enough to not be lost in the mix and cut through. Not saying flats get lost, but these have more of a hi-fi definition without being too bright.

DR sunbeams might work excellent. Warm nickel roundwound. Better defined low bass then most, detailed musical mids thru highs. Though a little less treble then many nickel rounds as other best choice that would for me. Halfrounds or comp wounds would be another good option. Dunno which of those Id like though. Lol. Still thinks sunbeams could also be great choice.

I love them too, great sound and feel but I wonder, are running them on a J? On mine they're pretty piano bright. I just put on black beauties, same string under the coated outer wrap that tamed the brightness, but not too much. Maybe op needs some dead Sunbeams!
