So what would you suggest when it comes to roundwounds? I'm looking for a Jaco sound, but I don't want Swing Bass 66. Thought's?

That isnt very specific, other than sounding like Jaco, do you want steel or nickel? I'm guessing Rotosounds are not what you want because they are abrasive? If so any steel string may be harsh on rosewood, thats if you are botherd about the board, if not get the Rotos.

I saw your other thread, and it seems like you like the sound of Rotosounds 66. I dont think you will get close to that sound with any other brand of string, as they are quite unique sounding. I have read that Labellas hard rocking steel is similar, but then you might as well get the Rotos, as they are steel also, but possibly not quite as rough (havent tried them to confirm though).

I know Gary Willis uses roundwound strings but I don't know what. I'd probably go with ground wound or tapewounds, though, to reduce wear on the fingerboard.

I think a lot of the Jaco sound comes from the epoxy finished fingerboard. (and from his playing too, but you can't buy some jaco's talent)

I've been using Rotosound 77 flatwounds. Great tone and it doesn't chew up the fingerboard. The only bitch is I have to go to GC and pay premium bucks to get them.

Get an epoxy job done on your fingerboard, then play the roundwounds of your choice. By the way, I concur with the choice of DRs.
