Im stumped...buzzing question.

Hey fellas (and gals),

I just changed strings yesterday to a lighter gauge with no problems and everything turned out fine. EXCEPT that the B and E strings are buzzing like no ones business. Doesnt matter if theyre played open or fretted 1-12, theyre buzzin'. The A, D and G strings have no buzz and sound great. I've read as much as I could to try and figure it out but Im at a loss.

Is it the nut? the bridge? truss rod? Any help would be greatly appreciated as Ive got a big church gig tomorrow Id like to sound my best for...

Thanks!

Most likely, the lighter strings have less tension and so the neck has relaxed and straightened out a bit. Try loosening the truss rod 1/4 turn.

It's sounds like you need a full set up on your bass. I've never made adjustments on my truss rod, but I'm sure someone here on TB can give some quick troubleshooting ideas.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you need a bass real quick, go to GC, and pick out the best sounding bass, and return it the next day. They have a 30 day return policy. I've done this before.

What he said. Your neck is likely "too straight" or slightly backbowed.

It could be any of the things you suggest, but the truss rod is the place to start. Check the web for instructions on proper adjustment. If you still have a buzz here and there, you can fine-tune with your saddle adjusters. If you still get a buzz on an open string, your nut slot might be too deep, and you can search for quick fixes for that. At some point you may want to check your intonation too. Good luck!

Fixed!

The guys at Nashville GC are nothing but top notch. I took it in and told them what was wrong and the tech-guy said, "Thats a quick fix." He worked for maybe 10-15 minutes and sent me on my way FREE OF CHARGE.

Thanks again fellas. Much love to my TB brothers!
