Inexpensive String Recommendations

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello I have a Peavey Cirrus BXP that I've had since January. It's a great bass, and I just can't put it down. I was cleaning it off yesterday with a polish cloth, and I noticed that the E string is very worn, and the A string is slightly worn. I have concluded that new strings are in order. What are some good strings that are fairly inexpensive, around 20 dollars? It'd be good if they are sold at a store like sam ash or guitar center because they are close by.

Thanks

In that price range I like Darco strings. They sound even, fairly bright, and break in very nicely. I get mine for around $15 and prefer them to some more expensive strings.

You should probably just go to your local store and find out what they have.

Most places carry Rotosound, D'Addario and Ernie Ball string which are decent strings for under $18.00 (four string set.)

I don't have much experience with strings (as I rarely change them) but I like nickel fender strings (they are what I have on now). I think they are medium gauge, and relatively cheap.

Ernie Ball strings are amazing. I highly recommend them! They are slow to wear out and sound great. I use the regular and power slinky 5 string sets. You could definitely get a 4 string set for around $20.

Not fair!

'Round my neck of the woods, I can only find basic D'Addario four sets for roundabout 20, and usually 30. Anything worth having - Rotos, EBs, La Bellas, even D'Addario flats or fives, go four around 40 and up.

SIT strings are very high quality for their price.

4-string sets usually just under $15, 5-string sets under $19 from http://juststrings.com

Does anyone know what gauge the stock strings are for a Peavey Cirrus BXP 4 String? If not, I'll look tonight with a caliper.

Thanks For All The Help

At this price range, I would go with D'addario XLs. You would probably be fine with any normal gauge. .045-.105 is standard, or some variation that is close to that (.045-.100 or .050-.105).

DR Highbeams, they maybe about 30-35 dollers but they will last forever without going dull. Iv had the same set on my Traben for almost 7 months and still love them.

I've read around these parts something along the lines of Carvin strings being made by LaBella? If I'm wrong can someone correct me?

I've never bought any strings off of Webstrings.com. I checked out the site and their prices are ridiculously awesome. Anyone have any experience with their flatwound strings?
