Last weekend I bought a new bass with D'Addario XL stainless roundwounds. They were very bright and piano-like. I am used to the TIs that came on my other bass and after some research here on the String forum and other sites, I chose the Superalloys. Special thanks are due Fretless Rock for his PM input. I ordered a package from Bass Emporium and they arrived on Saturday. Wow! I no longer sound like a piano...I sound like a bass. Round, warm, articulate and musical are the adjectives that occur to me. What a major improvement. And the 5th string is plenty tight even with only a 34.5" scale.

I have to say although I do like the sound of new stainless roundwounds, I tried a set of TI SA's and absolutely LOVE the way they both sound and feel. I change often and wish they weren't so $$$$$$$$.
