Issue with new strings

I have just changed from 4 to 5 string and swapped out my strings for the first time. I have a Schecter Raiden deluxe 5 and I have put EB super slinky strings on. I use standard tuning and the E through G strings sound great, however there is a rattling sound on the B string.

The rattling is happening because the part of the string where it transitions from the smaller diameter to go around the post to the thicker main part of the string rests just below the nut. This results in the string just barely touching the first fret.

A buddy of mine that plays a 5 string thinks I just need to give it time to stretch and it will take care of itself. I have already trimmed the string but it didn't make much if any difference.

Has anyone heard of this issue? If not any suggestions are welcome.

That string is not meant for that bass. It sounds like you need a Longer Scale string. You can raise it up slightly by putting a sliver of Plastic between the nut and string.

Yes your strings are too short... You need extra long.

Are you stringing thru body?

Since that bass is a 35" scale, I'd look into trying some other brands of strings unless you really like Slinkies.

In my experience, D'Addario's regular longs are also borderline on a 35" scale bass. However DR's will fit quite well.

FWIW

Ernie Ball Long Scale = 37.25" Ball to Taper
Ernie Ball Extra Long = 38.25" Ball to Taper
D'Addario Long Scale = 36.25" Ball to Taper
D'Addario Extra Long = 38" Ball to Taper
DR Long Scale = 38" Ball to Taper

D'Addario "Long Scale" are shorter than what you put on. Did you mean Extra Long Scale?
