| Issues with flats on a Lakland 44-02

I'm re-stringing my Lakland 44-02 Deluxe with flatwounds. I was considering either the DR Hi-Beam flats or the Sadowsky flats. I've heard that the Sadowskys won't fit, but I've never heard an explanation as to why. Can anyone confirm this? Are there any other Lakland owners that could suggest flatwounds to try? Or flats that may be problematic?
For reference, all my other bases are neck-through design with ebony fretboards, Bartolini soapbars (except the Alembic) and strung with TI JFs. The Lakland (with maple fretboard) is unknown territory for me sound-wise and I'm trying to get away from the TIs ($$$).
Also, I have to drive two-and-a-half hours to buy strings so I'm trying to narrow the selection down to something reasonable. Oh, and I've tried the XL Chromes and GHS Precisions and they weren't what I was looking for.
Thanks for any advice.
