I have been using TI JazzFlats on my 5 string bass for almost two years. I like them a lot but recently I decided I would try to get a more aggressive sound out of my bass.
I would like to stay within flat/semiflat wounds and after some searching in here I found that RS77 are regarded as having more bite, as well as SIT silencers and chromes. I've had the chromes on another bass and felt they were too high tension and the tension was uneven across the set.
Can any body compare the RS77s or Silencers to JFs and Chromes?
I welcome any suggestions/comparisons regarding the sound, stiffness and aging.
Thanks a lot

PS I forgot to mention. I play a 5-string bass so I'm really interested in your comments about the low B

Thanks colorblindbass.
How long do they last? Do you feel the E (and B) have similar stiffness as the rest?
I already went/called to all the local stores and nobody has flats here so I would have to order from just strings.

I would consider the Sadowsky flats. They aren't super bright but they are very aggressive if you want. Great sounding in a busy mix, too. I like the Chromes, too, but not on every bass I've tried them on.

I have been using the medium guage D'addario Chromes for a while now. I can't say enough amazing things about them. The tension is pretty tight, but once they break in, they're wonderful.

I've heard the Fender flats are nice and I would really like to try out some TI's, but I haven't got the stones to spend the cash on them at the moment. haha

I would say that my RS77 are a few notches on the aggressive side when compared to the fender flats I tried (same bass).

If that helps...
