Welcome to the Low End!! What kind of bass did you put them on? Chromes are the first flats I owned, and I LOVE them.

Do you do any jazz? If you do, I've been thinking about trying them. Would these strings work for that kind of stuff in your opinion?

They'll be brighter that you expect at first, but they mellow out wonderfully in a few weeks

i love chromes. tried rotosounds for a couple days this week and just didnt have the patience to break them in to really see if i liked them. just put my 3 month old chromes back on my jazz bass. The chromes will definitely mellow out in a few weeks depending on how often you play. If you are like me, you will like them even more.

Yes... I am in my breaking in period with my Roto Flats. I wish I had a time machine. Our next gig is in about 4 weeks. I may be pushing it. I tried the medium guage this time, wow those babies are tense. I guess I will see. But, I do love me some flats.

I tried the medium gauge for about a few days and went right back to chromes. Thought i would try the standard gauge last weekend. I just couldn't be patient enough to break them in. They definitely have much higher tension than chromes but that wasn't the main reason i took them off. It was a combination of the tension and the feel of the string. I just love this set of chromes i've been using.

I rarely see a thread where the end result is "I hate these and will never use them again."

Ive been an all flats guy for about a year now, with no regrets at all.

So how different will they sound when they are broken in?

I've tried Chromes, but prefer TI Jazz flats. Their sound is so distinctive that I think EVERY flat player should at least give them a try, even if they are $55 or so for a 4 string set.

Am I the only one who likes the tension of Rotosound flats?
What's the allure of less tension? I've tried La Bella flats but was more taken by the tone of the Rotosounds.

I'm a rotosounds guy myself. I like Labellas, but rotosounds are just better to me. Especially after they're well worn out and you're just left with that dead "thud" sound. I've never played a set of strings better.

I can say that about Dean Markley SR2000 strings. Taperwounds are not my thing at all.

However, I like other Dean Markley strings like the NickelSteels.

They'll sound like this after a few months of steady play.....

I love that tone!..... not a ton of thump or decay (although a bit of foam will get you there.... or some palm muting, like Justin does a bit of in the vid). Nice round tone with mids that sit wonderfully in the mix.

I'm just about to put a set of Chromes on my Classic Stingray 5. Looking forward to hearing them especially once they're broken in especially with the string mutes slightly activately.

TI jazz flats are great on a Modulus Quantum. On a 34" scale bass, TIs are too soft for someone as ham fisted as I am. On a 35" Quantum, they tighten up a tiny bit but just enough so that I can dig in and they still sound amazing.
