I just got my SX fretless (nice bass) and it came with DAddario flatwounds. I had two "out of the box" problems. One, the D string rattled at the nut. I think I got that fixed just by re-wrapping the string closer to the bottom of the post (that make any sense?) but the other problem is the G string 5th fret position ("C") is deader than a doornail. The B note and the C# note play fine. Would that be a string problem or something else? Thanks.

For the nut rattling problem make sure the actual nut is tightened on the head. This happened to me alot on my old Cort, the nut would rattle, so Id have to tighten the nut at the base for it to stop (make sure nothing is moving freely up there).

I had no problems with dead strings, and I actually prefer flatwound tone to roundwound. They're mellower which is exactly what I was looking for for my P. A big round sound, its great

You're going to be pleased.

Let us know what you think after putting the strings on.
Hmmm. Won't process my order or answer the phone.

How did you try to order?

I just ordered a few days ago, and the order shipped the same day.

I have ordered a couple of other times with them, and always same story - immediate ship.

Just checked the precise timing:

- Ordered Sunday night
- Shipped Monday
- My wife just handed me the strings

Well the order wouldn't process. It said there was some error. I made sure everything was entered correctly (it was) and I tried again. I noticed that I had two "not finalized" orders and pending transactions in my account.

I finally got him on the phone and he deleted those orders and took mine over the phone. He shipped them out today.

I think I might like him.

Great to hear. I love them, too. I'm using them now both on a fretless and a fretted. I think it will be my only type of strings going forward.

I love my Chromes on my Jazz bass........my P also has flats but they were on their when I got it so I'm not sure what kind they are. they have a lot higher tension than the Chromes but they are a bit thumpier than the Chromes.

I've had the Chromes on my Jazz for about a year now and they sound great!

Unhappy

I like Chromes but find they don't age well, they start to loose their pitch and don't tune well...

Some basses have dead-spots on the fretboard. It's a matter of physics, A resonant frequency of the neck lines up with the note being played and the energy of the note is absorbed by the neck. The solid maple necks are probably the worst for this.

I bought D'Addario super bright strings (yes, very very bright)

and I

HATE them.

Sound like a guitar set an octave lower.

Besides, I prefer Fender or Rotosound strings on my Jazz Bass

I got them as a present from my mother instead of Rotosound Roundwounds, so I decided to give them a shot.

I'm not an idiot

A couple of weeks to maybe a month of playing and they'll mellow out a bit.

I have Chromes on my MIA Jazz Bass Deluxe V and I love them. Going to put a set on my Yamaha BB415 as soon as it gets here from WWBW (Can't wait for the P/J tone with Chromes). Chromes are definitely "different" than many flats I've tried. A little bit less tension (but more than rounds), brighter and a tad bit higher output. I've tried Fender flats, EB flats, GHS Brite Flats and D'addario Half-rounds. Chromes fits the bill for me for tone, feel and playability.
