I totally hate them!!!!

I just took off some sadowsky's and i'll probably go back thru the trash and put them back on. I've played on Rotosound, Regular D'Addario, DR, Sadowsky, Elixer and factory fender; These have truly been the worst feeling strings i've ever played on.

I've heard so many people rave and read many posts about Chromes thinking i've got to try them. They feel like plastic!!!! It feels like i'm playing a fretless bass or an double bass. Not looks for that type of thing.

I could have put that $40 in my gas tank!!! Anyone want "slightly used Chromes for $10??

Were you expecting them to be similar in feel and sound to new Stainless Roundwounds? They get slicker as you play them more and break them in.

Which set of chromes and did you cut them?

edit: were they ECB82 .050 - .105, standard length?

Dude... I don't want to be a jerk, but... they are flatwounds.

I mean, really.

If you like rounds, you like rounds. If you like flats, you like flats. But in general, it's a safe bet that flats are gonna be pretty flat.

More importantly, though - how does the axe sound?

Not the sound I was looking for......

Imma chalk it up to experience. You've never know if something is right OR wrong for you unless you give it a try. I liked the sadowsky strings, but they don't really last long to me. Guess I'll just have to buy boxes and change them every few weeks. (I'm gonna be one poor bass player)

I had some ice cream last night night because everyone said how good it was.

I had to spit it out right away, it was COLD. I'm going back to cake.

YMMV.

Anyone who puts a set of flats on and judges both feel and tone ahead of them actually breaking in just doesn't get it. No disrespect intended to you, OP. But seriously, there are a multitude of thread on here that tell you it takes months for flats to break in. That coating and plastic feel on the strings goes away after a few weeks of playing (the black crap that gets on your fingers can be a bit annoying). The chromes start to mellow out and tame down in a couple of months. I can't think of a brand of flat that sounds and feels great right out of the package.

If you were a supporticng member, I would buy your $10 set of D'Addario Chromes soo fast you wouldn't know what happened. But alas, you are not and thus can't sell me those strings for 1/3 of their street price... Dang.

Sorry you disliked them, man. Personally they're my favorite string. The Marcus Miller is an interesting recipient of flats: seems like you'd want to slap that bass silly... To each their own!

I love the Chromes. I'm no slapper and have a real dislike for that style of playing, but to each his own. I play garage rock, roots RNR, blues, alt. country and Chromes are the bomb for my style of playing. I currently have them on my Ric 4001, Danelectro Longhorn, and Jay Turser violin bass. The Turser has had them the longest, since early Nov. 2009 and they are just starting to get nice after a couple months rehearsal and 3 gigs. The Danny has had them on since just before Christmas and those are still a little too twangy, but haven't been played as much since it's my live backup right now. Just put a set on the Ric last night, which for me is more of a studio bass. I like what I hear right now, but can't wait until those get broken in, should be real nice.
