Just strung my Ric with flats

I bought a set of D'Addardio Chromes, and put them on my Ric.
Wow! The tonal variety was pretty impressive. I could definitely still get them to clank, but they thumped as well. Also, coupled with the Ric, they had a very interesting mid range tone, I can't really describe it at all. It varied a lot all over the bass, from neck to bridge, and with hard or soft plucking.

I guess the best thing to say is that these strings have a lot of character. The bass also plays a lot better now, roundwounds had too much tension for this neck.
Pretty interested to see how it's going to sound with the band, drummer has been away for the past two weeks. Looking forward to jamming again (guitarist also just got a new Orange stack! should be some interesting practices.)

Very light gauge: Super Soft Long, .040 - .095.

Like I said my Ric has a pretty weak neck so I found the lowest tension strings I could (afford). Might take some adjusting to my technique, but it sounds great so far!

I'm a big fan of Roto 77 Jazz Flats, 40-60-80-100. Had a set of these on my 4001, in conjunction with a vintage reissue Toaster top pick up at the neck. Warmest smoothest deepest tone I've ever gotten out of any Ric bass. Incredible. And, those strings are so even between each string, I liked that alot too. I highly recomend both the strings, AND the Toaster Pup, great sounding together.
