Here's the deal: For Christmas my dad bought me some Hi-Beams (45-100s) and a few days later I was tuning up and my high G string snaps before I even tune it around an F. I email DR right around New Year's Eve, not expecting a response until at least next week seeing as they'd probably be busy. Today, I get home and check my email. I see a message from DR, they're going to replace the entire set for me.
DR has definatley gotten it right as far as customer service goes. They are my only string brand from now on. |

Once they're on, they're great, but I've had them break on me when I got in too big of a hurry. They're very tightly wound, which is why they sound so good, but also why they will break if you don't put them on the right way.

I was doing both of those, I took such care and read the little nice paper that came with the strings, it was nifty. But yeah, the other three strings on my bass are EXCELLENT. I love them. |

I live in Southern Louisiana... and I guess the humidity probably has some bearing over how long the coating lasts. I mean it lasted a few solid weeks, but it's been coming off since then. They still sound way better than any other string I've tried.
I'm gonna give Lo-Riders a shot next. I've always liked the way they sound, so I'm gonna throw a set on my P.
I remember when my guitarist buddy asked why I used "Doctor" strings. |

Anyway, both of them last A LOT.

| | Registered User Endorsing Artist: DR Strings, SMS, D-TAR | | Join Date: May 2003 Location: Boulder, CO | | | I have been an endorser for years (no free gear, just great strings!) and the reason is that when I got a 6 string in 1998, I went through every string set there is out there to find a set that felt like I was playing the same bass throughout every register. They also had to last more than 2 sets. There were some really horrible sets out there that felt like a 4 string set with a telephone pole and a guitar string added on. Those were discarded immediately. I found some that were really nice (Fodera's strings felt great and sounded awesome, but I had broken 2 within 3 sets of music. I don't play that hard), but they didn't last, either breaking or wearing out very quickly. DR Sunbeams were toward the end of my search and they just fit the bill perfectly. From low Cs and Ds to the highest notes, I feel like I am playing the same instrument and I can have a set on there for weeks at a time, playing them hours a day and they'll still sound and feel great. They also brought my Alembic Series I to life. It had been sounding very thin. They sound really nice on a fretless Dave King 5, as well.
Every so often I try other styles of DRs, Low Beams, High Beams, Marcus Miller, etc, but I always come back to the Sunbeams. They just sit perfectly for me. If only they made a Thomastik style flatwound!
Their customer service is a model for other companies to follow. Great people, great strings!

| | | I have DR's new flatwounds on my RBX 170 , Nickel Lo-Riders on my RBX 775, Black Beauties on my git-fiddle, and Red Devils on my son's git-fiddle. DR rocks in this house!
