Just when I thought I had it figured out...

Hey All,

I am recently converted bass player from the guitar world. My current basses are a 2007 MIA Fender Jazz Standard w/ Fender Custom 60's pu's and a 2008 MIA Fender Jazz Standard V stock. I play a full range of styles from Rage to Buffet and everything in between. I went out today to buy new strings and ended up with Rotosounds RN 66LD for the four string (by mistake) and RS 665LD for the fiver. I am wanting to keep the same strings between the two basses. So, I have already missed that today!!! After I have done some reading through the string threads both here and other places, I keep hearing about how Roto's eat your frets. I cannot find anywhere how fast this occurs. I am sure it is relevant to the amount I play, but as someone new to this, it does not sound that great. I am looking for some advice on what to string up with. I like the gauge - 45-105 and 45-135. I am not sure on the Nickel vs Steel question. I guess I am looking for the sets that are an all arounder. Thoughts? Thanks.

The nickles are safer if you're worried about fret wear. The steel strings are the famous "ringing" Roto's, and I've used them for years with very little fret wear.
