Kaman Bass Strings???

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone have any idea if these are good? I found a couple old 6 string sets of Kaman Performers (3232L-6 Stainless) at an old music store that went out of business. They're still in the package, but I think they're probably a couple of years old.

Gauges: C=.025 G=.047 D=.060 A=.080 E=.103 B=.128

Any info would be appreciated!

Sorry, not much to go on. I know Kaman Corp through Ovation sold Performer strings in the '80s, though I'm sure they didnt' have a 6-string set. They did at the time own their own string company, but I imagine that's gone now since Fender Musical Instrument Corporation bought Kaman last year, and FMIC already owns V. C. Squier (which CBS/Fedner bought in 1967).

All I recall for sure about the '80s ones was that they had a set of black-coated roundwounds. Not tape-wound, but a version of what Elixer et. al. eventually did. My recollection was that the strings sounded good on a P bass we strung up at the store I managed, but nothing exceptional.

I used Kaman Performers a few times in the '80s. I thought they quit making them long ago. The black ones were teflon coated. The teflon chipped off after a while, but I remember them sounding pretty good. I can't imagine a six string set being that old.

I'll have to take some pictures of it and post it. I don't own a 6 string, but I would only use them for my 4 string or my friends 5 string. These are just standard Stainless steel, no coating. But they feel pretty smooth compared to other stainless steel strings I've tried.
