Keep the dead half rounds er go wit da flats?

I have a six string bass with half wound strings currently on it. And I was thinking of maybe stringing it with flatwounds instead of the half rounds.

Now at this point where the half rounds are completely dead. Would it make a huge tonal difference? Or would I be wasting my money. And should keep the already dead half rounds on.

I know the answer really is that I should just try it and see what I like. But I just wanted to know if my already dead half rounds sounded like flatwounds at this point.

depends what brand you are thinking of going for.

Some flats just sound completely dead but others, for example, D'addario Chromes are brighter than regular flats. Some are higher or lower tension as well.. I've tried lots of different brands and can't see past Chromes but I'm sure other members will have other opinions
