Kinda bright, low tension, no drag flatwounds

Only ones I've ever played on that are all of the above were Rotosound Jazz 77 flatwounds. Those had no drag, were bright and medium tension.

How are chromes? They seem to be popular, but do they drag?
And DR flats? I have fender flats and the drag on those are ok, just too much for a fretless IMO

Thanks for any info guys!

Chromes are smoother feeling and lower tension. I found the roto 77s to be very high tension. The chromes might be a little sticky the first few days but that happens every time I get
new flats.

See I can't stand any stick at all. Being mostly a fretless player (and I like to go wild up and down the neck) I have to have something slick. I'll give chromes a try, see if you thought RS77s were sticky at first too... then chromes might not have any stick.

I use GHS Precision Flats, 45-100. Nice low tension, and I don't even know what you mean by stickiness.

I find my TI Jazz flats to be very silky smooth and have quite low tension. If bright is your thing, though, you won't find it there!

Oh, and I'm rocking chromes right now, can't make up my mind. They do have a little drag, not actually a drag for me though. Thing is I find them very clangy. I'm hoping it's just the New String Effect (TM) and that it will wear off, but my TIs had none of that when I got them new and I'm a little concerned. If they stay that way, I'll have to look elsewhere.

DR flats are very smooth, medium tension, but not what I would call bright.

IMHO the Chromes (40-95) are brighter and just a little bit more tense than the TI Jazz Flats (43-100). I find the TI's more musical and organic, so prefer them. The chromes are smoother or more even on the surface if that's what you want to learn... that being said, the TI's are not sticky at all.
These two are the only flat strings I've experienced so far. (I play fretted.)

I have T I flats on my Jazz fretless and love them. some say the tension is low , but i find them to be just right. Smooth and sound great. last forever too. No stickyness . IMHO its going to be hard to find better then T I.

Love my Chromes. Had a bit of stick to them at first but now they're like glass.

Ghs precision flats are a good choice as well except they dont seem bright at all. Im picking up a set of Sadowsky flats this weekend, I'll let you know what I think of them.

The GHS Precision Flats which are Lakland JO Flats sound great on the Lakland site on those Laklands.

http://www.lakland.com/audio.htm Not bright...but good definition.

I've tried every flatwound out there.
T I flats have low tension, great high mids, and smooth feel.
These string get warmer, and open up nicely, as the age.

Ti's will do all that you desire. I have them on my Sadowsky M5-24, and I think they pair well with bright basses, since they are little mellow. Great sustain for flats, you will like them on your Sterling. I used to have a Sterling fretless (I used Daddario nickel rounds mostly) and know Ti's will be great on that bass. TI's are particularly great in the mix (true of flats in general) warm and punchy.

TI's ~ I use them for every situation...
low tension / bright if needed /
1.5 years of heavy gigging and sounding better and better with age /
they feel awesome...
