Knick in a flatwound G string - Problem?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I bought a set of Chromes a while back and I remember straight out of the package the G string had two knicks in it. It seems as though the winding on the string is loose there and it is a coarse texture to the touch.

So I'm playing a gig Friday night with the bass and I'm wondering if anyone thinks I should be worried about breaking this string. It's been perfectly fine for the last few months. Should I run out to the store and get a new individual string?

The new string won't match anyways in terms of sound if those chromes are broken in. You'll have to deaden your string (do a search)

Those nicks are major weak points and, according to Murphey's Law, are going to break on the first song. Replace that string now.
