La Bella Deep talkin' James Jamerson set

I just put these La Bella 'Jamerson' strings 760M on my bass.
I like the sound but they are really heavy. I even think I have to adjust my P bass because the strings have much more tension. And because the strings are thicker the action of my bass is also higher now.

Before I was using La Bella Deep talkin' flats 760FL.

What suprised me is that the 760FL strings are much more smooth and slippery. I liked that. The Jamerson set is more rough.
Also the colour is different, the 760FL are more 'greyish' and the Jamerson's are more silverish. I was expecting them to be exactly the same just thicker.

Can it be that there is something wrong to the set . Or is it supposed to be like that?

Any comment from users of these strings will be appreciated.

I found the Jamerson set of be on the heavy and stiff side for me, too. Chromes are my basis for comparison. However, I do like the LaBella finish better right out of the box. Chromes take a while to loose their "sticky" feeling (that's been my experience, anyway).

A have another set of LaBellas (760FLs, I think) awaiting the completion of a new project bass. We'll see how it goes.

No sir, your Jamerson set is perfect as it is. The tension is high, the highs are nonexistent and the punch is Mike Tyson heavy. Perfect.

I recently bought a set of jamersons and the G string was different from the rest: more grey, too light gauge and had some weird buzzing. So I sent it back to La Bella. Maybe they're having some qc issues.

I have been playing only one day with these strings now. But I think I prefer the 760FL strings so I will drop the Jamerson set of the bass.

For me they are just too heavy. I have to make some adjustments on my bass and I don't want to that. Also they are not as smooth as the FL's they are just more rough.
Also they are too thick for doing some techniques like slapping which I like.

I also play double bass and that is also fairly heavy. When I pick my electric bass I don't want that to be heavy also. In that case I want to give my hands some relief to prevent injuries.

I was a short (and costly) experience but I have learned something out of it and that is what counts.

Try selling your Jamerson set in the Accesories for sale forum here on TB. Used flatwounds fetch decent prices. Some people prefer them when they're broken in.

If you bass is not properly set up, you may be getting the wrong impression. If the neck is bowing forward, it will make the strings harder to play. Take the tension off the neck and tighten the truss rod. If you do not feel comfortable doing basic set up stuff, the set up forum around here has a lot of good advice. I tweak my necks all the time. Taking 15 minutes to set up a neck for a new set of strings is just par for the course. Especially since you have already spend 15 minutes re stringing.

You should give them more than a day before you take them off. My set lost some of the stiffness and felt softer after being played a couple months. I actually thought they sounded pretty bad when I first put them on, but after you break them in, it's a lot different.

Yes. Take the time to set up the bass properly with these on.

The tension is very high, and this means you can really get the action down low without buzz, almost completely offsetting the tension.

They really sound sweet after a couple weeks of steady use.
