La bella deep talkin vs. chromes vs. fender flats for Dub?

Sign in to disble this ad
i got a pbass with daddario nickels on right now and while they're a fine string, i find myself playing more dub/deep bass right now.

i don't want a muddy string per se but someting that will produce a really warm/fat dub sound

i've got it narrowed down to these three strings. i could buy all three and try them out but A) that would be expensive and B) they are all at different tensions

also a side note, i use a hipshot detuner to drop the E string down to D

not chromes, a little too high middy for dub.

labella or fender, i think either would work well for you. my only issue (and it's a big one) with fender is their strange string sizes. to get a .105 E you need a .55 G (HUGE). i like labella's sizing a lot better, thicker on the E and A, and a little light on the D and G for a nice even tone throughout.

Go with the La Bellas, you won't be disappointed. Fenders are like high tension cables. Chromes might have a big too much high end for dub.

I can't take credit for the videos. I wish I could. I have been on a search for the right strings and came across that one looking for flats. I'm not sure who it is but I enjoyed them as well.

i would go with labella's probably expensive but the best one for deep dub... Chromes have a bit of top and Fenders have airy treble...

other options would be Lakland, or GHS flats

GHS makes lakland flats, so either of those are good.

i use Chromes exclusively for reggae/dub. After they break in, they are great for the style.

While it all depends on your taste, any of the already mentioned brands will "work" for dub. EQ goes a long way towards getting the bottom you need. I play a lot of reggae and dub & use or have used Chromes, Ernie Ball flats, GHS flats, LaBella flats, Sadowsky flats & my favorite Dogal Jaco flats. The brightest sounding ones are Sadowskys with Chromes coming in second. The deepest ones are Dogals & LaBellas. GHS & EBs are quite useful as well. The older they get the better they all sound IMHO.
