La Bella Flats on a through-body Mustang - a bad idea?

Sign in to disble this ad
I use La Bella flats on my standard 34" scale bass, but am just buying a Fender Mustang which has a 30" scale but is strung through the body. La Bella warn that their flats shouldn't be strung through the body. Anyone had any problems? Should I go for something else (thinking of the D'Addario Chromes).

Thanks all.

I have a short-scale SX with D'Addario Chromes and I would recommend them without hesitation except for one thing - my first string went dead about two weeks ago. It is very noticeable compared to the other strings. I may just have gotten a bad one, so don't use my experience as a guide. Just a data point. I've heard of people using La Bellas on string-through body basses without problems, but I don't think they'd warn against it without reason. Sorry I'm not much help, but neither of my basses is string-through.

I have used chromes on string through body short scales with great results. It was a MusicMaster reissue. I used the light gauge with the 100 E.
