La Bella - New Strings or New Branding

Sign in to disble this ad
taking a look at La Bella it looks like they have changed some of their strings. No more Hard Rockin' Steels or Slappers. Just plain old Stainless Steel and Nickel Plated Steel...

I hope its just a name change and that they haven't changes the formulas.

La Bella Electric Bass Stainless Steel Roundwound Extra Light, .040 - .095, M40

La Bella Electric Bass Nickel Plated Steel, .040 - .095, SN40

It's way way easier to change packaging than product. Easiest way to gain new eye's on your product.

I was wondering this myself. I was looking on juststrings and deciding which set I was going to buy, and noticed that there were no more Hard Rockin' Steels listed, only stainless steel.

I hope it's the same string being rebranded, as they are absolutely the best strings I have ever used.

Yeah, I hope it's not a Fender strings type deal, although I doubt La Bella will start outsourcing, but it's not unheard of for a string company to modify an existing product.

You can get them cheaper here:
Buy LaBella Electric Bass Strings from Bass Strings Online.

You'll get even more of a discount if you tell him you're a TB user when you register! And if you do somehow manage to find a lower price, Jason will beat it.

I believe they just changed packaging...

The part numbers are the same which is the main thing. If the part numbers change then its a different product.

For Example: Rotosound RS66LD's have been the same number for years but have seen different packaging. Strings have been the same though...

I even noticed Fodera changed the packaging on some recent Anthony Jackon strings received.

The new printing on the LaBella string inserts is very nice!

The last set of Deep Talkin' Flats i got sound and feel different to me. A little smoother, closer to the Sadowsky branded flats they make, and the tone is closer to the sads as well.

The La Bella Stainless strings are really underrated. The brightest, most immediate, attack-iest strings I have ever played.

I hope you do not feel my post suggested the strings were different?

I was only referring to packaging.

La Bella has had a huge investment in machinery and talent to run those machines - I can't see them ditching said investment.

Package change on La Bella Stainless & Nickel Bass strings

Hello Talk Bass,

Yes, we have in fact changed the "look" of our Nickel & Stainless bass guitar string sets. The item #'s still remain the same. We decided that the packaging needed a bit of a facelift after 30 years. I can assure everyone that these strings are constructed with the same formulas. The strings are made right here in New York like they have been for the past 100 years by my family! I also would like everyone to know that we only use American wire from American wire mills drawn in upstate New York. This caliber of wire is more expensive, but we feel our players only deserve the best for their instruments. I hope I have been some help on this topic. All the best, and happy playing.

Thanks for chiming in Eric. So can you once and for all settle the whole La Bella vs. Sadowsky flats question? Are they the same or are they different?

hello bassboysam,

Roger Sadowsky designed all his bass strings to his specifications. We took his guidance about how he wanted the strings to sound, and constructed them for there.

I'm glad they changed the name of the strings. I hate when it's not obvious what kind of strings are in the package.
