La Bella Piccolo Strings M20 Darn high tension! Help!

Sign in to disble this ad
I just received a set of Labella Hard Rockin Steel Piccolo bass strings, the M20 set with a 0.080 E.

Well, maybe it's an E, I dunno. The tension is so "darn" high, I cannot tune the "A" string up to pitch, at F, the string is too tight to play. When I tune down to where the tension seems right, it is a D, but kinda clanky.

When I tune both strings down to E and A an octave lower, the strings are flop city, unplayable.

I thought the piccolo set was an octave higher than a regular bass, but could I be wrong?

Or am I just supposed to just grin and bear it and tune up to an octave above regular bass.

The bass I am trying to string is a Yamaha Motion B MBII, with a 32" scale.

I did very much the same thing... but on a 34" bass, I actually snapped the E getting it up to what I thought the proper pitch was. Apparently, those are some sort of tenor bass strings, or some other tuning besides octave up.

What you need is the M10 set for actual piccolo tuning.

Figures. Then I wonder what the heck the tuning is for the M-20 set? Hmmm... I think I will be contacting LaBella Monday...

And if they're not standard piccolo tuning, I wonder why they're selling them as piccolo strings
