La Bella round wound suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to try out some La Bella bass strings for the first time pretty soon and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for which round wound strings to try out. It looks like my options are Hard Rockin' Steel, Deep Talkin' Round wound, Slappers, and Super Steps. I play several styles of music. Which of these strings would you recommend I try out? They will be going on my Spector Euro.

i've got slappers on my precision. they are a nice nickelwound round ala d'addario nickel.

nice warm tone that isn't too bright or zingy, but still sounds like a round.

i've always wanted to try the deep talkin' rounds, i've heard they sound a lot like their flats but they're round.

let me know what you get and think, i'll be interested to hear it.

Might give these guys a try. Do these strings have anything special compared to other nickel rounds?

Also, what's the life of these strings?

they were the warmest of all the nickel rounds (fenders, d'addario, DR) i've tried.

Fine strings.

I would start with buying Carvin rounds--they are made by La Bella, and are less expensive than La Bellas.

I might suggest the nickel 45-105 set to start.

Are the deep talking rounds nickel? I have a set that came on the Jazz I picked up about 4 months back and starting to seek out some others to try on it. I have the Sadowsky singles and preamp in this Jazz so I might give some of the Sadowsky strings or Lowriders a try but I really dug these La Bella's.

I have the Deep Talkin' Rounds on my Precision Plus and SX Jazz. I have not changed the strings on the Precision for over a year now, with a fairly decent amount of gigging on them.

They still have a nice treble bite with good fundamental (it's the only way I can think to describe the sound) and still stay in tune (though I am not currently gigging). They had at first a slightly metallic zing, which I like to some extent, but I am really liking how they have mellowed out; I can roll the tone knob back completely and get a nice smooth finger tone out of them, sort of reggae=ish. I can also play punk and get a nice treble (but with a good solid lowend) attack with the use of a pick.

Oh and my old band tuned to drop C# and the Deep Talkin' Rounds had great tension.

So, I would suggest trying them, I was throroughly impressed with them.

*Edit: Previously I was using DR Black Beauties and I think Hi-Beams. And Dean Markley Blue Steels and a set of Thomastik-Infeld Flats.
