La Bella Strings

I just tried the M42B 5 string set of Hard Rockin Steels on my Sadowsky RV5 (40-60-80-100-128). The 128 taper core B is by far the best B string I have heard on this bass. After two months of playing these strings, the focus of the B just blows me away. However, I am still trying to get the optimum setup to deal with the ligther strings.

I was wondering if the Nickel Slappers have as good of B?

Also wondering sonic differences between the Super Steps and Hard Rockin' Steels?

+1 on the HRS. I have them on my NYC Std 4 and they are perfect.

My string of choice for a long time has been LaBella Deep Talking Bass in a medium heavy (50 to 109) I've been playing for over 30 years so I have tried most brands, LaBella is my favorite by far

A bassist neighbor of mine was the one to recommend Hard Rockin' Steels. He mentioned that Roscoe Beck uses them. My neighbor has a Roscoe Beck V, and so do I. So, it was a no-brainer: I got some Hard Rockin' Steels. I've tried other sets since (Rotos, Elixirs, DR's) but the HRS remain my favorite string on my RB5. As you say, the tapered B is superb.

I don't have any experience with other LaBella strings. I recently got some Deep Talkin' Bass nylon tapes, but haven't yet installed 'em. Of course they'll be a very different animal than the HRS.

It's been a lot of fun trying out various strings (pricey too!) I tried the HR's earlier this year, and have since tried 2 other brands. Recently tried the DR Hi-Beams on my Fender RBV, great sounding string. Anyone dare to compare the HR's to the DR's? Likes / dislikes?

Thanks, p5
