LaBella Beatle Bass Flats vs. Roto Tru Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys! I recently purchased a Hofner Contemporary Beatle bass. The rounds that it came with are fine, and give me good useable tone, but I'm interested in trying flats on it. I'm debating between the LaBella's and Tru Bass, so I have a couple of questions for guys that have used them both...

First, are there significant differences in tone between the two? Second, I know the Rotos are larger (.115 on the E). Any issues with them fitting the nut properly? I'd rather not have to modify the nut if I don't have to in case I go back to something smaller.

Thanks for your help!
John

Sorry, I can't speak for the Rotosounds, but I just put a set of LaBellas on one of my student's Brice violin bass, and WOW, am I impressed. Sound awesome, no installation issues, absolutely the perfect solution for "that sound" in my book. They are definitely going on my Hofner Icons ASAP.

I've got the La Bellas on my Icon. You are going to love them!

LaBella on my Icon as well. Much better than Pyramids. Never ran Roto flats on the Icon but I did on my Rick and didn't care for them.

If your looking for that early Macca sound, LaBella Deep Talkin flats are the answer. I have them on my violin bass and absolutely love them.

Thanks everybody for the great info! I was leaning toward the LaBella's and from what I'm hearing, they seem like a great choice! Time to go place an order! LOL!

Send a message via MSN to 60's Bluesman
so would these beatle bass strings work well on a non-hofner violin bass?

Yup! A friend of mine has a Rogue violin bass, and the LaBellas sound amazing on it. Every bit as good as my Hofner.......dammit!

As stated, I put them on a student's Brice violin bass and I was floored.

I also have never tired Roto's on my Hofner Contemporaries, but the Labella Beatle Bass Strings are fantastic.
