Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has used the "standard scale" sets in a long scale instrument without problems. I'm planning on stringing a 5 string fretless bass with a 35" scale E-C with these strings. I also noticed that the girth of these strings is considerably higher than otrher standard flatwound sets, would I need to file the nut to make them fit? Finally if anyone can provide some feedback as on how these compare to Daddario chromes (feel, tone, tension, overall value), that will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks to all the TB community.

| | | | You won't have to file the nut since you're using the EADGC set on a bass intended to be strung BEADG. |

That takes up at least an inch or two of string length, and they're plenty long. I would guess that they would be long enough if your 35" scale is not string-thru, but can't promise.
I'm not at home for the summer, and that particular bass and my spare LaBella strings are not with me, so I can't measure right now. Maybe someone who has some handy can measure the windings for you? |

Glenos, thank you so very much for your kind insight. My bass is not through body...is a Yamaha TRB, so apparently, and according to your observations, the "regular" scale lenght strings may work without problems. In any case, has anyone else tried this or has some insight to offer. Any help is much appreciated. |

I have a set on my Schecter California custom 5 which is a 35"
scale bass and the only problem that I ran into was that it is a string through or a top load bridge and the B & E strings do not work using the string through option, so I just ran the B & E strings top load style and the remainder of the strings I used the string through method and everything works great as far as setting up the bass and setting the intonation. Hope this helps in answering your question,
peace,

Brian.-
I appreciate your kind insight into my dilemma. Apparently, the regular long scale set will work for my bass since there is no through body stringing option. Thank you very much once again.

They even went into the nut slots without filing, though they are too tight in the slots, IMO. I have not bothered to file the slots out, though.
They are very dark strings in comparison to TI Jazz Flats, Ernie Ball and GHS rounds, which are what I have around for comparison. I like them, but they make for a very dark bass. I would think they might record well, as they are sweet without the clackety-zing of the rounds. |

Thank you so much for your insight, that is the exact answer I was looking for. My bass has a rosewood board, so roundwounds are abit out of the question ofr me since I don't want to grind it...Also, I don't like the "zing" of rounds on a fretless. I have used Daddario chromes with satisfactory results but I want to try something else, that is why I decided to try out the tapewounds. I want to string my bass E-C to make it more of a "solo" instrument. Any other thoughts guys?
PS. Many thanks to all for all your helpful insights and for your time. Your help is greatly appreciated.
