I would not put a Jamerson set on any bass that I wanted the neck not to snap on....LOL. Kidding but theey have frightening tension to me. 760FLs all day long 24/7 for me.

I use La Bella Deep Talkin' on both my 62 P and 79 J and I like the sound and feel. The only thing I don't like about them is the tension! If you use the medium gauge, they'll definitely bow your neck over time.

I have Jamerson's on my 63P...

But I tune Eb Ab Db Gb...

It makes such a big difference when tuned this way in tension with those..

Is there a noticeable tone difference between the FM (.109) and the FS (.105)?

Im wondering which LaBella Flat strings Carvin is using. Carvin tells me that their flats are made by LaBella. They have the purple thread. Are these the Deep Talking Flats? they have nothing written on the packaging???? Are these 760fl's?? The guys at the store dont seem to know so just wondering if anyone here does?? Also I paid a little over $20 for them if I remember correctly..

Just got a reply back from customer service at carvin. I asked which Labella Flats they were selling- if they were the 760fl's.

"The are labella, you are correct. However I'm not sure of their exact part number. I did however look up the 760fl, and It looks like that could be the right set."

anyone know for sure? these have the purple thread and are $21.99 at their stores.

My 760FL's (2 years old) have red silk at the peghead end and no silk at the bridge end. Have 'em on my home-built P-bass discussed here. I've never seen 760FL's for less than around $29 so not sure what to make of Carvin's $22 price. Could just be a good deal Carvin has by buying in bulk and then passing on to customers. But may be a differently spec'd string too. Can't go very far wrong for that price though, and Carvin is a very solid company so I'd imagine it's a nice string, coming from LaBella.

Likely, Carvin specs the string from LaBella, and buys in bulk, to save a bit of money, and pass along the savings.

I bought a set of the Carvin flats for a 4003 a couple of years ago... Played, felt and sounded so good, I received an offer I couldn't refuse! So I sold it!

The only string I have played that I like better than LaBella (and/or Carvin strings) is the Pyramid Gold (Hofner strings are made by Pyramid, so they are included). They have a "medium" tension, complex overtones and a silky feel, with no break-in time, and they last for years!

My apoligies for the question I am about to ask, but I have still yet to finish my homework on flats as I am still in the converting stage lol. But I was wondering, is the Jamerson strings you are talking about are similar to the strings Donald "Duck" Dunn is known to use?

The flatwound strings with the purple silks sold in bulk through Carvin are not LaBellas -- they are GHS Precision Flats. I've used these for the past four years, and the tone isn't that of any set of LaBellas I've ever used.

The packaged sets of roundwound strings with the black silks sold by Carvin are indeed LaBellas -- they even say so on the back of the packet.

The key to knowing the difference is in the color of the silks and in the construction of the string itself. GHS flats are excellent strings, no matter who sells them.

Hope this clears things up.
